Two forces are pulling on you as you leave school and enter the workforce.
One force is to grow up externally. To lose the flip flops, sweats, and back pack. To gain the business casual attire and the paycheck. To become a responsible and contributing member of society. Meaning showing up to work each day, paying bills, and planning for retirement. Your parents probably love this force.
The other force is to grow up internally. To shed expectations and baggage from childhood. To take responsibility for your life. To figure out what you truly want from life, and then to go after it. This drive is often ignored.

If you find yourself at one extreme or the other, either financially successful, but internally empty or internally satisfied, but externally bereft you might want to reconsider your course. See if you can add a little bit more of the element that is being neglected into your work and life.
