You know those things that you generally shove down and try not to think about?
Yes, your dreams!
I think they matter a whole lot. Here’s why.
Dreams help you to become more you. Every dream is personal, containing some glimmer of who you truly are. When you pursue a dream you bring more of that truest self out into the world. Going for a dream (eventually) makes standing in your own skin a lot more comfortable.
Dreams light the way to living a full life. When you go after a dream you’re embarking on a hero’s journey. This entails a heady mix of excitement, fear, courage, and dragons. You’ll never feel more alive than when you’re reaching out into the unknown, attempting to bring your dream down to earth.
Dreams take you straight to the edge of your comfort zone and ask you to keep going. No doubt about it, when you honor a dream you will have to do things that feel scary. As a result you will grow by leaps and bounds.
Dreams benefit the world. Your creation, whatever it is, is a gift to the world. It will benefit others, either in a tangible way, or as an inspiration to others to show what’s possible.
Please take one small step to honor a dream of yours today.
Lately I’ve been experiencing a lot of anxiety over career options- between what I would love to do and what ‘makes sense’ financially as a mother to three children. Reading your blog has both moved me and calmed me and I thank you for your words of encouragement. Your writing style is frank but gentle and filled with moments of affirmation and validation for me.
I figured this particular post was a fitting one to leave a comment like this. Thank you.
Thanks so much for your kind words Joleen!
