A little while ago I received a question that contained a sentiment that I think a lot of us can relate to.
It went something like this, “i want to be independent, live a luxurious life, do what i love for my career and at the same time be successful.”
Or in other words, “I want it all!”
All these lovely things- the hefty bank account, the fulfilling career, the recognition of your achievements- are certainly possible.
And knowing that you want those things is a good first step.
But there’s a second, more important, step that seems to get overlooked a lot.
What are you willing to put up with in order to get what you want?
Here are just a few things that are probably lining the path to that dream life:
- Rejection
- Failure
- Criticism
- Disappointment
- Frustration
- Impatience
- Uncertainty
- Doubt
- Bad days
- Time and money invested in education/ training
- Starting at the bottom
- Lower income while you’re learning the ropes
- Doing things you don’t feel like doing
- Stepping out of your comfort zone
- Difficult people
- Hard work
- Consistent effort
- Facing fears
- Being vulnerable
- Showing up day after day
- Making mistakes
- Taking risks
- Asking for help
A lot of us want it all.
The people who are willing to put up with all the challenges along the way are the ones who actually get it.

Being misunderstood.
Good one! Nice to see you hear Pama. 🙂
I already put up with most of those in my current job, add to that: humiliation, boredom, multi-tasking nightmares, too many bosses, and craving to work at home. Every day I feel like an actress pretending to fit in to the workplace I am in. I love Pam’s comment of ‘being misunderstood’…that is huge!
I am willing to put up with the challenges of uncertainty and hard work in order to work from home. I do not know how to make it pay though.
Hang in there Luann! Your job sounds rough.
Your comment made me think of an opposing question to the one I posed in this post. “What are you not willing to put up with?” There’s definitely a distinction between putting up with challenges and putting up with things that are majorly harmful to your health and well being.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Luann!
